I had a really good Quest momment yesterday at work and thought I would share it with you guys.

I take a laptop to work with me on slow days so I can keep pounding out my monstrous game "Gathered In Darkness." I am so close to being done, just the scenery objects and such are all that remains. Anyway, the first couple of chapters are completley done and playable. The guys at work were wondering what I was making (they are early twenties and have not even heard of IF) so I let them have a crack at the first chapter (never to early to beta test, right).

They LOVED it. I had to pry them away from the computer and they have demanded that I bring it back on every shift to let them continue playing as I finish chapters. The really cool thing is that they only came up with a few commands that could not be implemented (inspect...who types inspect instead of look?) but for the most part my coding to accomadate the five senses has paid off.

It just made me feel alot better about the last several months I've spent doing this and so I thought I'd share it with you.

Good luck with each of your projects,

Dr.Froth

Congratulations. You should take advantage of the new Quest game website, as you can play online without having to download anything.

I'm almost 20 myself, but am more experienced in old-school gaming. I look forward to seeing the final result.

Hey, I like the title. It sounds like you have more programming to go then you're letting on. I often tell myself: about a few months more... yah right! Look forward to playing your game. I mean, you've hyped it up so much that it better be at least decent.

I admit I'm not a moderator, but why did you place your post in "Creating Games"? Thought I'd let you know theres a forum called "Quest Games" for this.

That sounds very reassuring Dr.Froth.
I'll have to make sure to play your game after you submit it! Sounds like it's a very thought out game!

I'm moving this to the games section.

Tr0n apparently forgot to move this topic, so I moved it to this forum along with the thread on my game. Good luck, Froth. I look forward to this game.

I'm commenting on this in here because it was mentioned in this thread. I am having some trouble getting the online games to play. I wonder if it is because I'm at work. I'll have to try at home.
But when I start the game, it brings up the screen with no description. I type "look" and it sits for a second and then says it could not connect.

Me too, but it wasn't old skool at the time. haha
Actually, come to think of it. That was about when I was playing King's Quest V and it was brand new, the game that started it all as far as my interest in adventure games. Hence, I devoted over a year to creating it as a text game once I found Quest.

Wow, I'm going to be 30 this year.

The "play online" feature is currently a beta, and at the moment the server software is failing fairly regularly... I've just restarted it and will be addressing the bugs soon.

I'm turning 16 in September!

You're not even 16 yet!!!!! That's scary.

007bond
why is that scary?

Cryophile
It's not. I first discovered Quest when I was 14 or 15, and it's nice to see in the community. I first got hooked on IF when I was 6. My parents bought me my first real computer, a 286 Nixdorf, and it had a dos version of an Alice in Wonderland IF game. After that, I was hooked. A few years later I found the Zork games on a demo disc I got from a Computer Gaming magazine.

I guess it shows what 5 years difference can make. I never got into IF until I saw an article for Quest in a PC magazine here in Australia and discovered it.
