Why wait!

I have been here for, I guess 5 years. I never thought I would want to learn HTML, CSS or JavaScript. After all, it would be a quite an undertaking, one of which a man of fifty-three could never do. I found that I have gone to the ends of what Quest can do without these three coding languages.

I love what Quest can do alone but I want more. I have been struggling in my attempts to piece together code without knowledge as to what the code is or why it does what it does or even where it should go and the possible affects one line can have on the game.

I have started W3Schools tutorials a week ago and have found I knew more than I thought I did, just from using Quest. But now I am gaining the whys and what for's of my usage of of Quest.

I am binging the tutorials because I can't get enough. I have completed several hundred tests. The mysteries of divs , really? Elements and selectors...Come on. Style, buttons, tags, image manipulation. All stuff I have done but in such a Frankenstein fashion that it was impossible to fully understand what was happening and how it all works together.

If you are in the same boat, I would advise you to take a few minutes a day to learn the root of what you are doing.

Just a bit excited to have learned more about coding. It really is a simple thing to absorb.
Done venting....

When you're doing the JS tutorials, it's probably worth going for jQuery ones. jQuery is a javascript library which has very different ways to do a lot of things, and can be almost like learning a whole new language. jQuery is built to recognise and work around the different browsers, so you don't need to worry about code not working on a different browser if you get used to doing things the jQuery way.

Right! JQuery is the way to go. I have been learning to use jquery. 👍

Good for you, Forgewright! I am in a similar boat. I've gone about as far as I can with just regular Quest, but have been learning bits of HTML, CSS, and JS in a piecemeal fashion. What you're doing is better, learning this stuff systematically. It would be good to have another knowledgeable person around to brain-pick with my questions :D

K.V.

I learned a lot more from freecodecamp.org than I did from w3schools.

...after having used Quest, of course.
