"Error Launching Game"

Whenever I go to launch a game, I get the message "Error launching game: Could not load file or assembly 'CefSharp.Core.dll' or one of its dependencies. The specified module could not be found."

Still happens after a fresh Quest reinstall. What's going on??

This MIGHT help (I don't know, I don't work here or anything. I just found this in a different thread and thought it might help you out):

POSTED BY THE PIXIE HERE: https://textadventures.co.uk/forum/quest/topic/egf3rhya_ueqn0nkgv2ryg/object-reference-not-set-to-an-instance-of-an-object-error#2b2f2280-14ad-4c3f-93bc-c40ef481f0cc

CefSharp.core.dll is a file, and in my installation is in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest 5, all with a load of other .dll files, as well as others. Is it there for you? If it is not, and you re-install, does it them appear?

You should also have Quest.exe in that folder. If you double click that (rather than using menu or desktop shortcut), and then open your game, what happens? I am wondering if you have a copy of Quest.exe on your desktop, rather than a short cut to it.

When you reinstalled, did you download the installer again first?
If not, I would definitely try that.

If that doesn't work (and/or you don't come back and post that you've figured this out), The Pixie (or someone else who is more knowledgeable than myself) should swoop in and save the day for you whenever this post is spotted.

Good luck!

Quest 5.8 needs better error messages!!!
I had the same problem when I first installed Quest...
http://textadventures.co.uk/forum/general/topic/yys4enhjzksqpbf4v67c0g/is-quest-compatible-with-win10-64-resolved
And of course CefSharp.Core.dll IS in the Quest folder!!! and it still can't find it!

For some people, Quest loads and runs fine in C:\Program Files
For others, it worked in C:\ Program Files (x86)...
Try this and see if that helps.

Nope... Quest launched outside of it's folder has a completely different error message... (I tried)

a lot of such problems have been fixed by downloading/updating your ' MS .net framework', which helps make multiple programming languages and etc stuff compatible with each other, as far as I can understand this stuff myself. So, try downloading it and see if quest works:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework (about it)

https://www.microsoft.com/net/download/framework (download the .net framework 4.7 or whatever the current version is)

otherwise, it is an issue as addressed by the posts above with links to Pixie's help on this stuff of with how your computer places your quest files/sotware and its user/folder access controls, which it does for security, but interferes with being able to find and access your (quest) files, and thus prevents the program/software from working.

usually, the easiest way, is to install quest (or whatever software) to a folder on your desktop, instead of letting the computer do the default install, which it installs within its various locations (program folders and appdata folders directly within your c drive), and then which be subject to the access controls that cause problems for you with blocking/restricting the use of quest's files, and thus prevents quest from working.

Here's me following up.

When you reinstalled, did you download the installer again first?

Yes, I downloaded the installer again whenever I did it. I'll look at the Pixie's thread to see if it'll help, give me a second.
