How do you stop the game from using the intro for testing purposes? And publishing/player testing questions.

I have a rather lengthy intro. I have moved the player from the starting room, but it will continue to play upon entering the game, until I have pushed through it all. How can I disable it without deleting the whole thing, as I have it the way I want it, just not for testing purposes. ^^! Thank you.

Where have you put the intro? I assume if moving the player doesn't help, it must be in the start script.

One suggestion would be creating a temporary object to hold the script; then you can cut and paste the intro from the start script to some script on the new object. You can put it back when you've finished testing.

Or you could put an if block around the script for the intro:

if (GetBoolean (game, "skipintro")) {

Then give the game an attribute named skipintro and set it to boolean true.
When you've finished testing and you want to turn the intro on again, just change that attribute to false.

Silly me, I just cut and yanked it from the game and will (hopefully) simply just place it back where it was when it is time to publish... and if I remember... o_0 I tested it and it seems to be interchangeable, even from my word processor (after uncopying and then recopying just to be sure ^^! ) and it seems to be fine. It will save me from having to go through that lengthy intro over and over again. Thank you.

I understand there is a wait time for a game to be published, as it has to be reviewed and or tested before going public. But do I have to wait a length of time for each new update or version to be published or that is instant?

If I understand correctly, a game will be available almost immediately when it is published. Initially it is only available to people you share the link with. But once it's been approved, the game can be found by browsing the categories on the website.

Updates wouldn't need another review; moderator intervention is only required to put it in a category.

Thank you. That is good to know. I had seen comments before of taking a month or more for the game to be put into circulation. But the game in question was then instantly (with in a day or two) reviewed and then put into a category. I understand the back log has to be long due to the amount of games trying to be published and real life issues/not enough volunteers to go around.

However for further clarification, if I am using the desktop version can I still give someone a "link" for player testing/thoughts? Or I have to attempt to publish it first and while it waits to be reviewed, I can use the link it shows and others can play/test it in the mean time?

Also does the author have any say in what category it will be put into it? For mine it could go into several, but I would prefer to choose one out of the many if possible. I think the game asks you what it is when you are creating it anyway. I am just not sure if that is what the reviewers will even consider or if there is a bunch of puzzles in the game, even though the theme is not a puzzler, if they would put it under Puzzle instead of something else.

Also can a game have multiple categories? I am not seeing that from the other games, unless there is a main and several other categories listed on the side that I am not aware of. As again, mine falls under many or will when it is all said and done. Thank you.

I believe this is the case. Have only tried to publish using online editors, but I suspect it's the same for uploads.

You can also publish a game and choose for it to be unlisted, in which case it is only visible to people you give the link to. When your game is finished, I think you can ask the moderators to review it and set it to public.
