You opened your eyes. Surprisingly, the fall did not killed you. Perhaps it was involved with the strange amulet at your wrist.
The location you are in is pitch black. Luckily as you start searching in your backpack for a light source, you trip into your flashlight. It is in good condition.
As you light it up and pace around, illuminating your surroundings, you find a strange humanoid figure, seemingly made out of shadows. How will you react?:
[[Approach it without fear, maybe it could give some advice and directions of this place]]
[[Back off, you do not know how it would react to you]]As you approach the creature, you raise your arms to the air signaling that you meant no harm. The being simply gives you a glare and ignores you.
You make signs explaining your current situation when it suddenly starts signalling back.
As you start to back away, a strange force pulled you closer to the strange being.
You seem to have no option to approach it and attempt to communicate with it, with logically will be difficult since you cannot speak.

Welcome! This is a prototype of the future text-adventure game "Lonely in the dark". Here we will test out the basics of the game, introduce our main characters and premise and test out Twine.
I hope you enjoy it!
[[Begin test]]
[[Show premise first]] After sneaking out of the cursed village, you enter the vast woods of the Surface. It is dark so you pull out your flashlight to move onwards. With your gear and wits you felt determinant as you moved forwards.
[[Next]] Suddenly, you hear something large passing through the trees. Nervously you decide to:
[[Point your flashlight where you heard the noises to see what it is]]
[[Run!!!]] As you point your flashlight up, you see nothing but a shadow. A huge shadow. Feeling it was staring you down at your soul, you began to run at the opposite direction. The shadow chases after you.
After running for several minutes, you begin to sweat and pant as the sinister shadow is still chasing you relentlesly. You have the following options:
[[Keep running]]
[[Point your flashlight at it]]
Not wishing to stay in the same spot anymore, you began to run at the opposite direction in fear. More noises could be heard from the trees, this time much louder. You felt the presence of a predator chasing its prey, you.
After running for a while, you begin to feel exhausted for sprinting and feel a need to rest. The sounds from the trees are becoming even louder.
You then decided to:
[[Keep running]]
[[Point your flashlight at it]] You could not risk losing any more time, you thought, as you continued fleeing from the creature. Yet in your exhausted state you couldn't run much longer as you collapsed in the dark soil below.
Now you could see the creature, it was a gigantic, dark creature of no shape that floated slowly towards you. Dark tendrils sprout out of it as it began to wrap around you, as you wished to scream, yet again, you were mute. You still had your flashlight with you and not wasting time you point it at the foul creature...
[[Point your flashlight at it]] As you point your flashlight directly at the creature made of shadows, it hisses in pain, giving you time to catch a short rest and continue running.
Not much after, the creature continued its chase behind you...
[[Continue]] After a long chase, you had to stop suddenly.
Before you it rested Charon's Cliffs, the entrance to the dreaded Underworld.
As you searched for another way around the cliff, you felt a sinister presence just behind you. You turn around nervously and gaze directly at the monstrous creature that had been chasing you. Before you can react, the monstrosity knocks the flashlight away as it were a toy into Charon's Cliff. You had two choices to make:
[[Jump into the abyss below]]
[[Look for an item in your inventory]]
As you attempt to jump, a tendril comming from the creature grasps you and pulls you closer to it. A horrifying maw begin to open waiting for you to be in it.
Knowing you had little choice left beside confronting it in combat, you decided to look for an item in your inventory...
[[Look for an item in your inventory]] As you search in your inventory, you could see the following equipment:
[[A knife]]
[[A rope]]
[[A torch and lighter]]
Quickly, you pull out the knive and prepare yourself in a defensive position. The shadow creature notices it and takes a aggresive pose as it lunges towards you.
You swiftly swing the the knive at the beast, only in horror to witness the knive passing through the beast, making no ill effect on it.
The creature continues it's attack without mercy as it engulfs you; the world around you goes into darkness as you feel your lifeforce being drained away little by little...
The end
A rope? How can you use a rope in a situation like this? Oh, now I understand...
As you pull the rope out of your backpack, you began tying a part of it to a rock next to you and to your torso. The creature, seemily amused by this, moved back several meters and began to lunge towards you.
Prepared for this, you take a firm grip of the rope and began to scale down the cliff.
Yet, after you were making some progress, you felt something cold covering you as you descended, making you feel weaker and weaker. Eventually, you lost grip of the rope and fell towards the dark abbyss of the Underworld...
As you fell, you could glimpse a flash of blue light emerging from your amulet as the world went black in darkness...
[[End of prototype]]
You quickly grasp the torch with both of your hands, lighted up with the lighter, and swinged it swiftly repeatedly.
The shadow retreated a few feet back agonizing in pain, giving you time to take a leap of faith down Charon's Cliff.
As you fell, you saw the shadow chasing after you relentlessly. You started to feel cold and weaker each second that passed.
From your amulet in your wrist, a bright blue light emerged, covering the shadow and you as both fell into the Underworld...
[[End of prototype]]
Your name is Mono, you lived in a human village located outside the thick forests of the Surface. Since you were born, you were incapable of speaking, you were mute. Other villagers saw this as a sign that you were mentally disabled, this leading to harassment and discrimination.
Eventually, tired from all of this bigotry, one night you made a backpack with essencial paraphernalia and in the silence of the midnight, you abandoned the village and fled to build a new life in the woods.
What dangers may lie, you don't know, yet if you use your wits and logic, you could possibly stand a chance in this world.
All you had to do is avoid heading into the dreaded Charon's Cliffs, the entrance to the caverns of the Underworld
