The night wears on and you finish your drink. You start to think about heading home and wonder if your friend, who has clearly had far too much, would want to come with you. They stumble as they walk to and from that bar and slur their words as they talk. You hear some faint mumblings which sound like they want you to have another drink. You look around the bar and see other people having a good time, they look at you and your drunken friend. You feel [[embarrassed]], but also like you might want to [[join in]].
<<audio barsound play>>You cave in and join your friend. You go up to the bar and order another drink. Ecstatic, your friend decides to order a round of shots to help get you in the mood. This is starting to feel like this is a [[bad idea]].
Things quickly get out of hand, you start to lose the feeling in your fingers. Your friend suggests you get [[another round of shots]] before heading out to a nightclub. Drinking anymore would certainly give you a hangover, which you would definitely feel tomorrow morning. However, you could get a [[taxi]] to take you back home right now and you could just about brave tomorrow through gritted teeth and a throbbing headache. You decide to stay with your friend. You haven't had this much fun in a while, and don't see any point in cutting the night short before it's even started. You both go to the bar order the shots when somebody taps your friend on the shoulder. It's somebody they clearly know, but you've never seen them before. They say hi to your friend and introduce themselves to [[you]].You decide to cut the night short, not wantings things to get any worse than they already are. You are over the limit, so you need to get a taxi home. You go to say goodbye to your friend, but see that they are already conversing with another group. You exit the bar, pulling up your phone to [[order a taxi]].You decide to call it quits before things get out of hand, and go to tell your friend. They seem a bit upset, but understand since you did say you have to be up early tomorrow. You only had one drink, so you are okay to drive back home. You wonder whether to [[give them a lift home]] or to home by [[yourself]] and leave them here to enjoy their drinking.
You offer to give them a lift home and, after a moment of deliberation, they say yes. Feeling bad for cutting the night short, you ask whether they want to get a takeaway. They say yes, but not sure where. You head out into the [[car park]].Just before you go to ask them, someone taps them on the shoulder. It's another friend of theirs, one that you don't know. They converse for a few minutes, before getting some more drinks. You decide to leave alone, they probably won't notice that you've [[left]] anyway. You exit the bar and start to walk to your car. All of a sudden, you feel your phone vibrate in your pocket. You pull it out, seeing that it's a notification for your security cameras back home. It's sent you something that was [[recorded]].
<<audio barsound fadeout>>You quickly tap the screen to view the footage. You see two men cladded in black walking down your drive. They don't spot the camera and move out of view as they approach the side of the house. You assume they are planning to break in the back of the house. There is a button on the app which you can use to [[call the police]], sending them the footage. However, you wouldn't be able to drive whilst doing so and it could take several minutes. It would be quicker to [[head home straight away]].You send them the footage and, after several minutes, you get through to the police. They say that they will send a patrol car which should arrive at your address in under 10 minutes. You feel slightly relieved as you get into your car, but you nonetheless [[head home]] as quickly as you can.You jump in your car and start to head home straight away. You figure that, on a Saturday night, there is no chance that you will be able to get a hold of the police; they're probably all busy stopping fights outsides pub and clubs or pulling over speeding teenagers on their way to partys. Nonetheless, you [[head back home]] as quickly as you can, clinging on to the hope that everything will be fine. You have no trouble heading back home, it is late at night and the streets are quiet. You kick yourself for not at least leaving a light on at home to make it look like someone was in. As you [[turn into your road]], you pray that everything is alright. You spot a police car further down the road, with several people surrounding it. The lights of the car flash blue and white. If you weren't so stressed you would probably feel bad about waking up your neighbours. As you get closer you see that two of the people, the men from the recording, are bent over the front of the car. You breathe a sigh of relief.
You have reached [[Ending 1]].There's no traffic on the way home, and you get back without a hitch. You pull into your street, illuminated by only your headlights. You pull into your drive, there is no sign of the two men or a vehicle they arrived in. You open the [[front door]].Somebody has definitely broken in. There is evidence that something has been stolen from every room, and the patio door is wide open. From the looks of it, whoever was here has mostly taken electronics from the living room and kitchen, jewellery from the bedroom, and all of the cash that was locked away in the safety deposit box. [[You call the police]].Your friend notices that their phone has died, so asks to use yours to search for anywhere on the way home that they can get food. You get into the car and see that there's a place on the way home that's cheap and has something you both like. Your friend gives you [[the directions]] on your phone.
<<audio barsound fadeout>>Still a bit drunk, your friend's directions are shakey. They lead you down a few wrong roads and take you the long way out of town, but you eventually make it. Inside, the smell of fried meats and chips make your stomach [[rumble]].<img src="twineimages/fastfoodimage.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;">
You look up at the glowing menu and decide to get a large cheeseburger and chips, whilst your friend goes for a kebab. You sit at a table by the window and make disjointed small talk with your friend as you wolf down your food. Your friend makes a mess of their meal as a mixture of grease and sauce drips onto the [[table]].
<<audio fastfoodsound play>>You go up to the counter and grab some napkins, wiping the mess off the table. With no more reasons to stay and the early hours of the morning creeping up on you, you say to your friend that you really should be getting back. You leave together and head back to the car, with a rough idea of how to [[get to back your friend's house]] from where you are now.
<<audio fastfoodsound fadeout>>You check your phone and it lights up your face with a dozen notifications. Amid the pointless emails and messages from the group chat you now regret joining, there's one that makes your heart sink. It's from your new security [[cameras]]. The notification came through 54 minutes ago.You quickly tap the screen to view the footage. You see two men cladded in black walking down your drive. They don't spot the camera and move out of view as they approach the side of the house. You assume they are planning to break in the back of the house. There is a button on the app which you can use to call [[the police]], sending them the footage. However, you wouldn't be able to drive whilst doing so and it could take several minutes. It would be quicker to [[head home straight away]].You decide to send the footage and, after several minutes, get through to the police. They say that they will send a patrol car which should arrive at your address in under 10 minutes. You feel slightly relieved, but you nonetheless just want to [[get home]] as quickly as you can.You have no trouble heading back home, it is late at night and the roads are quiet. You kick yourself for not at least leaving a light on at home to make it look like someone was in. As you turn into [[your road]], you pray that everything is alright. You spot a police car further down the road. Three people are stood next to it. The lights of the car flash blue and white. If you weren't so stressed you would probably feel bad about waking up your neighbours. As you get closer you see that the three people are police officers. There is nobody [[with them]].You arrive outside your house and get out of the car. The police ask you to identify that this is your house, and that it was you that sent the recording. You pull the ID card for the security system out of your wallet and [[hand it to them]].
<<audio policesound play>><img src="twineimages/crimesceneimage.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;">
You hand it to one of them, and they reply with a mournful expression. The two cladded men have burgled your home. In the process, they have made off with over £8,000 worth of electronics, jewellery and cash you had locked away in a safety deposit box. The police have a lead, a black van was spotted on a nearby street by a resident, who told them when they arrive. It isn't much to go on and unless they can find out what happened, you will need to claim it all on your insurance.
You have reached [[Ending 2]]There are numerous notifications, but none of them looks significant as they blur together on the screen. You stand by your car, ordering the taxi through your phone. As you wait for it to arrive, you feel your stomach start to rumble and realise that you could use something to [[eat]]. However, you are already into the early hours of Sunday morning and you really should be [[heading back home]].
<<audio barsound fadeout>>It is a Saturday afternoon and you are sat at home. As with most Saturdays, you haven't done a lot. You had a lazy morning in bed before heading downstairs around lunchtime. You promised yourself that you would do something [[productive]] today. As you get into the taxi, you ask the driver if they know of any good places to stop off and get something to eat. Your driver suggests one that's on the way home and agrees to [[drop you there]]. Some of the things he describes sound good to you, and it's close enough to your house that you can walk home from there. You decide to head back home straight away. There's always food at home and the sooner you get back into your own bed the better. You call the taxi and ask the driver to take you straight home. As you drive away, the streetlights and neon signs of clubs and bars begin to merge together. Feeling dizzy, you look straight out the front window. A glass of water and whatever processed food you've got in the fridge should help to deter the alcohol. You just hope that you've not left it too [[late]] to save yourself from feeling like hell tomorrow. You recently bought yourself a new security system for your home. It is a basic set up of cameras which link to an app on your phone. Whenever you are out of the house, it will alert you of any activity it picks up and sends you the recording. If it records somebody you aren't expecting, you can press a button to call the police. You have an ID card which matches your system to prove that it's yours. It only took a few hours to install, and now you are rewarding yourself with some downtime watching some sports on [[tv]]. You lay there on the sofa, not really paying attention to the program you're watching. Your phone vibrates and you half hope it's something picked up by your new camera, something to test your fine work. It's your best friend, they ask whether you want to go to the [[pub]] tonight for a drink.
<<audio phonesound play>>Your first thought is to say no. You can't really be bothered to go out tonight and are feeling a bit tired after all those hours of fiddly wires and small instructions. You say that you'll think about it, but they plead you to come. To be fair, you haven't seen them in a while, and it would be nice to [[catch up]].
<<audio phonesound stop>>You agree to go but say that you'll only have one drink. You say that you're going to sociable, not to get wasted. You have your Grandmother's birthday tomorrow and you'd rather not feel like hell throughout it. Besides, it would be the perfect opportunity to test out your new security system. You go upstairs to [[get changed]].<img src="twineimages/clothesimage.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;">
You go upstairs to your room and open the chest of draws. You're already wearing jeans, so it's just a matter of finding a top. There's your favourite [[bright yellow shirt]], but you're worried that you might look a bit weird. You also spot an [[emerald coloured cardigan]], buttons and all. Whilst you might look a bit more normal, people might think you're off for a coffee rather than a beer.
Shirt it is. You tell yourself not to worry so much about what other people think. You lock up the house and check the cameras are on before getting in your car. You head to your [[friend's house]] first, as they've promised to buy your drink in return. The cardigan gets the nod, you'll be thanking yourself later when you've got to walk back to your car in the freezing cold. You give your arms a satisfying smooth as you head back down the stairs, doing some final checks before you head out to pick up your friend. They promised you a drink in return, after all, and it means you can use the reason of not wanting to leave it overnight as an excuse to get away. Taking one last look at the camera as you head out the door, you make your way to your [[friend's house]].Your friend is already waiting outside when you get to theirs. They get in with a beaming smile on their face. You are glad to see them. They take a look at your outfit and give you a questionable look. You say you wanted to try something new. They laugh, knowing that most of your wardrobe is to an acquired taste. You continue to catch up as you [[head to the pub]].Even in the short time it takes to get to their house, your friend still manages to fall asleep. You and wake them from their slumber, check that they've got their keys to get in, and send them on their way. Just before they get out, you remember that they still have your [[phone]], and you take it back off them. You say goodbye to your friend and check they get in safe. You get to the pub and park your car. As you walk with your friend, you notice the smell of alcohol on their breath. You wonder why they would have already started drinking, considering you said you would only have one. You decide not to ask, and hope that they don't have anything else planned for [[tonight]].<<cacheaudio "barsound" "twinesounds/bar.mp3">>

You walk in and are awash with the smell of all the things the driver was describing. After taking a quick look at the glowing menu, you decide to go for some fried chicken. You also get a portion of chips to soak up the alcohol, and a large drink to compensate for the large amount of salt you pour onto your food. You sit on a stool by the window, watching the flow of customers come in and out with their burgers, kebabs and other [[midnight delicacies]].
<<audio fastfoodsound play>>
<<audio fastfoodsound loop>>Within five minutes your food is gone, only a smattering of crumbs remain in the box. You take a large gulp of your drink and, feeling a bit more soberer, pull out your phone. You look at the stream of notifications that have come through in the past few hours. Amid the pointless emails and messages from the group chat you now regret joining, there's one that makes your heart sink. You didn't recognise it at first. It's from your new security system. The notification came through [[54 minutes ago]].You view the footage. On the screen you see two men, cladded in black. They come down your front drive, before heading round to the back of the house. You jump off the stool, heading outside. You need to get home as quickly as you can. There is a button on the app which you can use to call [[the police]] and send them the footage, and you press it without hesitation.
<<audio fastfoodsound fadeout>>As it turns out, they are also planning on heading to the same nightclub. They ask if you two want to join them. You kind of want to be left alone and enjoy a fun night [[drinking with your friend]], but this could be a chance to get to know them better, possibly ensuring more nights like this in the future. Your [[social life]] is a bit lacking, after all.You politely decline, saying that you just want to spend the night catching up. Your friend says to the other person that they'll meet up soon, and they go back to their group. You two finally get to the front of the bar and order a tray of shots between you. Your friend challenges you to a [[game of pool]], to make the drinking more interesting.<img src="twineimages/poolimage.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;">
You carry the tray over to the table. What starts out as a game of pool quickly descends into a game of who can pull off the most ridiculous trick shot. Every failed attempt results in a shot, which only makes things worse. Within five minutes they are [[all gone]], and a small crowd has gathered around you.It is quickly obvious that your friend isn't planning on just having one drink. Whilst you get yourself a single pint, they get two. When you ask why, they laugh, saying that they were always going to get two. You start to feel a bit nervous and, knowing that they're a [[big drinker]], hope that this is just their way of compensating. The night starts fairly normal as the two of you catch up. You slowly sip at your pint while your friend finishes theirs in no time at all. You are having a good time and, whilst you think your friend is too, you suspect the [[drink]] may have something to do with it.After what feels like an eternity on the worlds worst roller coaster, the driver finally pulls into your road. The streetlights are faint and you use the headlights of the car to look out for your house. The driver drops you off and you pay him with the last of your remaining cash. You walk down your drive and open the [[front door]].Going out with this new group of people sounds like it could be good fun, and the three of you go over to join them. They talk about the nightclub they are planning to go to. It is further into town and you've not heard of it before. On any other night that would bother you, especially since you have your Grandmother's birthday tomorrow, but tonight you are just wanting to [[have fun]].You line up to take your next attempt. The empty shot glasses now sit on the table with a ball at the other end. You plan to chip the ball so that it lands in one of the glasses, but you misstep and [[scuff its side]]. It slowly roles into one of the holes. There are some ironic cheers and a few laughs, but you are too drunk to feel embarrassed. Your friend stands at the side, with the pool stick in their hand. Now that it is their turn they begin to parade around the table. They swing the pool cue freely in their hand like a lightsaber. Not at all aware of what's around them, they fail to spot the figure coming through the front of the [[crowd]].You try desperately to call out to them, but your pleas fall on deaf ears. You can only watch as your friend swings the cue with the power of a baseball player into the side of a bouncers head. The cheering and laughing stop as your friend is grabbed by the scruff of their neck and dragged outside. The crown then turns to you and, not noticing that you're rooted to the spot, you quickly make after your friend and [[head outside]].You leave the bar and see your friend, who shaken by what's happened. Given what's just happened, you aren't in the mood to carry the night on any further. Given the amount you've had to drink, you will need a taxi home. There's part of you that just want to get home and into bed as [[quickly as possible]], but you also feel bad and want to [[take care of your friend]].
<<audio barsound fadeout>><img src="twineimages/nightclubimage.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;">
The group you are with head out to [[the nightclub]] in a series of taxis. From here on out the night becomes a series of conversations with random strangers, downing colourful liquids as fast as you can and dancing to music that you've never heard and probably never will again.
<<audio barsound stop>>
<<audio nightclubsound play>>
<<audio nightclubsound loop>>Eventually, the night just becomes a blur of loud noises and dizziness. By the time you [[wake up]], you barely remember any of it.You wake up the next morning on the floor. Your back is sore and there is no sign of a pillow or a blanket. It is as if you just passed out wherever was most convenient. Looking around the room, you see a collection of unconscious people who you assume were from last night, not that you remember any of it. It takes you a few moments to get to your feet before you feel a sudden queasiness. You desperately try to find the bathroom in this unknown house. You don't leave it for several hours.
You have reached [[Ending 4]]
<<audio nightclubsound stop>>You decide to get a taxi home by yourself. You walk past your friend, who doesn't notice you. It just so happens that a taxi is dropping some people off. You jump in it and ask for a ride home. The journey goes relatively quickly as you drift in and out of sleep. The driver turns into your road and drops you outside, you are glad to be back home. You open the [[front door]].You go over to comfort your friend and ask whether they want to split a taxi. They say yes, looking a bit happier. As it so happens there is a taxi just dropping some people off at the bar, so you hail it down and [[get inside]].It is a quiet ride home and you have to stop your friend from falling asleep. Feeling their pockets, they can't find their keys and ask to borrow your phone to call home and see if there is anyone home who can let them is. Thankfully, there is, and your friend returns your phone as they get out of the taxi with a [[puzzled expression]]. They point out a notification on your phone. You look at the phone and, after a minute of processing, you realise what it is. It's a recording from the security system. After the night you've had, you just hope it's nothing. You quickly tap the screen to view the footage. You see two men cladded in black walking down your drive. They don't spot the camera and move out of view as they approach the side of the house. You assume they are planning to break in the back of the house. The button appears on screen to send the footage to [[the police]].<img src="twineimages/ending1image.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;">
Ending 1:
Although you never saw their faces in the recording, the police confirm to you that these two men had staged an attempted break-in. They arrived whilst it was taking place and, after a brief pursuit on foot, the suspects were apprehended. No items were taken, although the police advise that you take a look at the lock on your patio door. Although a little shaken up, you feel relieved as you get into bed that you left when you did. You go out the next morning and purchase another system for your Grandmother to go along with the other presents you got her. She seems a little confused at first when you give it to her that afternoon, but you assure her that it's worth every penny.<img src="twineimages/ending3image.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;">
Ending 3:
After conducting their search and reviewing the camera footage, the police suspect that two people broke into your house through the patio door. £8,000 worth of electronics, jewellery and cash from the safety deposit box are missing, and the police have little leads. They say they will call you if they find anything. You don't sleep a wink all night. You tell the news at your Grandmother's birthday party the next day. The mood is pretty sombre until you receive a call from the police. They say that they've located a few of the items from local pawn shops, but will struggle to find the rest without any other leads. You will have to pay around £6,000 on your insurance to recover the rest of the items. Not feeling in the celebratory mood, you sulk in a chair for the rest of the afternoon. Your Grandmother offers you some cake. You politely decline.
<<audio policesound fadeout>><img src="twineimages/ending2image.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;">
Ending 2:
You struggle to get a full nights sleep but are glad that you called the police as soon as you realised what had happened. You tell the story at your Grandmother's birthday party the next day, people are thankfully sympathetic. Whilst you are there, you get a call from the police. Pursuing the lead of the black van, they found that it had been recorded several times in the local area on CCTV, all near pawn shops. The police have traced most of the items, so you will only need to claim around £2,000 on your insurance. You feel mostly relieved with a tinge of guilt for not checking your phone sooner. However, you join in the celebrations and enjoy some delicious cake.
<<audio policesound fadeout>><img src="twineimages/ending4image.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;">
Ending 4:
Deciding to put your social life before your family, you completely miss your Grandmother's birthday. Your phone died in the early hours of the morning, and the many missed calls and messages go unannounced to you. Meanwhile, in your completely drunken state, you failed to see the alert on your phone from your new security system. Whilst you were out, two men broke into your home, stealing £8,000 worth of electronics, jewellery and cash locked away in the safety deposit box. Any chance of there being a potential lead is long gone and most of the items have already been pawned off. You will have to claim it all on your insurance.<img src="twineimages/crimesceneimage.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;">
You get through to the police almost straight away and report the break-in. They take around ten minutes to arrive. One of the officers waits outside to interview you whilst the other two go in to survey the crime scene.
You have reached [[Ending 3]].
