They read as human, of an archaic lineage. They appear to have pushed their bodies as far back as they can without crawling into the ocean; No viral alterations, no rudimentary symbiotes, no realignment proxies. Basic, boring humans. Museum pieces. Their only upgrades read as [[phagocytes]].\n\nSome sort of Hygenoluddite sect, you'd wager. They appear to have dressed themselves in [[barbaric finery]] for their long voyage. \n\n[[Best get prepared.]]
The umbilical tunnel is eerie and lifeless. Dead ribs of steel flex against wide expanses of some sort of shimmering plastic. Your step falters for a moment; you've never, ever been anywhere so.. Carefully, clinically barren. It's like running through the skeletal remains of some long-dead robotic serpent. You force yourself on faster, the bomb bleeping away the seconds in the space between steps.\n\nYou see an octagonal hatch at the far end. It looks closed. You curse inwardly, and for a moment you think of just throwing the bomb at the hatch in desperation. Better than being obliterated.
