Get Lamp - the text adventure documentary

Jason Scott (the director of the BBS Documentary) has recently announced his latest film in his weblog. Get Lamp is going to be documenting the history of text adventures and interactive fiction.

All i can say is that if he covers the subject as well as he did in his previous documentary, then it'll be well worth the wait. :D

Don't know how the documentaries go, haven't seen any of them - and I aint ordering any.

I personally find most things that go on TV miss certain stuff out myself, dumb it down, and can occasionally put a spin on it.
Just yesterday there was a 'watchdog' (program over here in the UK) that was warning people against false bank emails.
First off, it was hugely dummed (?) down, secondly it was missing key issues, thirdly it put an 'end of the world' scenario spin on it, and fourthly it actually falsely blamed hackers for any/all of this.

The BBS Documentary wasn't aimed for TV; he's only released to DVD. I'd say that it wasn't `dumbed down' very much at all.

Also, the BBS documentary is release under a creative commons lisence, so you don't have to buy it, even though Jason wants you to. :P

It appears the documentary is nearing completion after "roughly 80 interviews" with the filming taking place between February 2006 and January 2008. Looks like a documentary about "Text Adventures (later Interactive Fiction), the storytellers who created them, and their unique place in the history of computer games" is soon to be with us.. should be very interesting. We'll have to see if we can cope with having sound and moving pictures instead of words on a screen!! :D
