“I hate this idea of ‘good’ drugs and ‘bad’ drugs. There's no such thing as a good drug or a bad drug. There's this chemical that's neither good nor bad, it just exists, we either created it or it exists in nature, and then it's the relationship that humans have with the substance that is the issue.”

c3-d1-p1You ask, //"Is there anything else in there?"//
Kyra: "Oh yes indeed..." She pulls out yet another smaller bag,
The bag contains some kind of yellow orange crystalline dust that looks similar to pollen.
Kyra: //"Now this is the stuff... DMT."//
You have so many questions, but you know you've got all the time in the world to ask them, so you save your breath for the moment.
Putting the salvia and DMT back in the paper bag, Kyra holds the bag of mushrooms in the air...
Kyra: //"Who wants to trip?"//

Kyra smiles, and you both look to Andrew, he says //"Why not?"//
Kyra: //"Sweeeeeet!"// She starts to eyeball roughly a third of what's in the bag to one side, then hands it to Andrew. //"Five grams for youuu!"//
She does the same, piling an intimidating amount in your hand. You never expected 5 grams to look like so much!
Andrew: //"And I have to eat ALL of this? In one go?!"//
Kyra: //"Yes. You want it all to hit you at once."//
She puts what's left in the bag into her hand and asks the group, //"Are you ready?"//
Andrew: //"Ready as I'll ever be."//
Kyra: //"Aight! Last one to finish is a rotten mushroom!"//

You go on enjoying the rest of the day in a postive mindset and sober state minus a few drinks. Kyra and Andrew seem to have a great time off in their own little world. The rest of the day goes as expected and your headspace remains neutral and controlled with little effort. A few hours later Kyra and Andrew have come back to reality and they claim to have had a blast. You are thrilled to have kept them company while they had their own experiences, but you can't help but feel like you were missing out on something. You tell yourself you made the right decision keeping yourself safe by staying in control.

Now staring straight up to the sky, you notice for the first time how magnificent the night sky is away from the city lights - you see so many stars you have never seen before in your entire life. You point out the night sky to Kyra and Andrew who both take a seat on the grass beside you - all three of you lie looking at the stars.

<img src="images/anxietyMeter_green.png" class="fix"/>You decide that you know better than to listen to an ‘imaginary voice’, so you continue walking around the festival. Your nausea only worsens and it is now on the brink of being considered painful. This causes you to start feeling anxious. You worry that the mushrooms were the wrong species and you have just gone and poisoned yourself on the first day of the festival. The paranoia grows with the relentless stomach cramps and body aches. You are not enjoying yourself. You are now stumbling over your own feet. Long tracers turn into disorientating motion blur. You keep your head down and look at the ground as you walk to stop yourself from feeling dizzy. You worry now if you friends are wondering why you look sad, but won’t say anything as you don’t want to ruin their night. Heightened introspection causes you to feel like you are too embarrassed about the way you are right now to be around anybody. You have the idea that you should go someplace quiet. You feel like you want to be alone and somewhere that feels like home. You remember your tent back at the campsite.

<img src="images/anxietyMeter_yellow.png" class="fix"/>Gradually everything starts to become a little less intense and you feel as though the peak is over, but a strong afterglow remains. Almost as if you are reading each other's minds, everyone looks one another.
Kyra: //"Did you all just go through what I went through?"//
Andrew: //"I went through something... Can't even begin to explain, but I went through something that's for sure."//
Kyra: //"Same. Give it some time and it'll all make a bit more sense. They call it 'integration'."//
You tell them both that you also can't really explain it right now but promise to tell them about it when you are able to.
The three of you spend the rest of the night exploring the festival and decide to check out the music again a little later.
Eventually when the music passes its climax for the night, everyone decides to get some rest and head back to camp.

<img src="images/anxietyMeter_empty.png" class="fix"/>You wake up the next morning in your tent well-rested, and feeling sharper than you when wake up most mornings; you attribute this to the effect of the mushrooms.
Even though it's almost lunchtime, you grab your breakfast out of your bag and leave your tent to find Kyra lying on the grass smoking a joint and Andrew sitting on a log cooking something on his portable gas cooker.
//"Morning"// they both say to you as you zip up the tent door behind you.
//"Morning!"// you reply, //"How do you both feel after last night? Had a good sleep?"//
Kyra: //"Better than ever!"//
Andrew: //"I feel great."//
You concur with them both and sit on the grass between the two, get comfy, and enjoy your breakfast.

<img src="images/anxietyMeter_empty.png" class="fix"/>Kyra pulls out two bags filled with a dark green, dried, plant matter that looks almost like cooking herbs. One bag is marked ‘leaf’, the other marked ‘50x’. She told us it is salvia, a plant that’s legal in a lot of countries and is said to be just as trippy, if not more intense than DMT. She explained that the experience only lasts around ten minutes, so if you don’t like it you won’t have to put up with it for long. After asking what ‘leaf’ and ‘50x’ mean, she said leaf is the gentlest experience, 50x is 50 times that.

Andrew: //"What's it like?"//
Kyra: //"Honestly, if I could explain it I would. It's just one of those things that you're gonna have to find out for yourself."//
You consider which of the two you will smoke.

<img src="images/anxietyMeter_green.png" class="fix"/>You decline the salvia but encourage the others to do as they please. You enjoy a relaxing afternoon chilling with your friends at the campsite. You feel like you might be missing out on something after seeing Kyra rolling around on the ground laughing for 10 or so minutes. If it’s that short and she came back from it okay, could it really be that bad? So many people have such frightening stories to tell about salvia, maybe she’s just lucky. Deciding to stay sober for now still seems like the safest option. Why risk it when you’re feeling fine just as you are?

Kyra: //"And remember to hold it in!"//
You put the pipe to your mouth, light the lighter, and inhale as much of the thick, harsh, dry smoke as deep into your lungs as you can. You don't finish it all in one go, so after holding it in for a good 20 or so seconds, you finish the pipe and quickly hand it back to Kyra as you feel an extremely abnormal shift in gravity pulling you strongly downwards and to the side, so you attempt to get up and attempt to rebalance, but the pull is too much and you fall over.

Your surroundings look simplified and cartoonish. Everything feels like it’s the first time you seen it, and thus feels unrecognisable. This freaks you out and you just close your eyes and wait for it to wear off. You feel gravity start to return back to normal, and you open your eyes to see reality slowly unfolding back into its normal three-dimensional appearance. As they reach the light, you feel your soul disintegrate, but instead of becoming nothing, you become everything. You realise that the light at the end of the tunnel was the projector of the cosmic movie reel you didn't realise you have been watching your entire life. And that the light isn't something else coming from somewhere else, but that is actually you, and you have been there since the beginning of time. You realise that the eternal life projector that is you hasn't only been projecting your own life movie either, but the life of the every single being to have ever lived, and the existence of the entire universe as a whole! You have a paradigm-shifting epiphany: I'm not just me! I am universe! I have been my entire life!
Not long after, you slowly begin to remember: you remember you have a body; you remember you were in a world; you remember that you took a drug; and you remember that you are in fact alive and okay after all.

The effects of the acid begin to become apparent; the music seems to grow in depth and width, new frequencies appearing in your conscious awareness where they weren't before. It's like hearing in HD. Your perception grows sharper and sensory stimuli becomes more intense.
As continue to move to the music, your awareness of yourself and everyone around you grows. Quickly running over your checklist for the 100th time, you make sure you've packed all your festival essentials. Kyra told you to pack light. You tried your best but it looks like you're going on a three week holiday.
Before you even leave the house you can hear Kyra's car sound system thumping through the front door. Lugging half a ton worth of clothes, camping supplies, food and drink, you make your way to the car...
"YEEEEEEW!!!" screamed Kyra over the blasting basslines of her favourite psytrance playlist. She jumps out the car and runs over to you and gives you a big hug before you even had a chance to drop your bags.
"Lemme pop the boot for ya", she says as she runs to the front of the car and pulls the lever. You throw your bags in the boot, close it, and jump in the back seat. Psychedelic Experience: Salvia Divinorum
Kyra pulls out two bags filled with a dark green, dried, plant matter that looks almost like cooking herbs. One bag is marked ‘leaf’, the other marked ‘50x’. She told us it is salvia, a plant that’s legal in a lot of countries and is said to be just as trippy, if not more intense than DMT. She explained that the experience only lasts around ten minutes, so if they don’t like it they won’t have to put up with it for long. After asking what ‘leaf’ and ‘50x’ mean, she said leaf is the gentlest experience, 50x is 50 times that.

The player feels gravity increase strongly downwards and to the side, so they attempt to get up and move around, but the pull is too much and they fall over. They lose all depth perception and their vision turns 2D. While looking at a tree, they notice that they are no longer looking from their own eyes, but from the perspective of the tree instead. The ground around them appears to roll up like a carpet behind them and the player feels as if they are stuck rotating around on a big wheel. Their surroundings look simplified and cartoonish. Everything feels like it’s the first time the player has seen it, and thus feels unrecognisable. This freaks the player out and they just close their eyes and wait for it to wear off. They feel gravity start to return back to normal, and they open their eyes to see reality slowly unfolding back into its normal three-dimensional appearance. The player feels a bit shaken up by the experience, but fine overall and happy to be out of it.

c1-salvia50xChoice 2: Don’t smoke the salvia
The player enjoys a relaxing afternoon chilling with friends at the campsite. They feel like they might be missing out on something after seeing Kyra rolling around on the ground laughing for 10 or so minutes. If it’s that short and she came back from it okay, could it really be that bad? So many people have such frightening stories to tell about salvia, maybe she’s just lucky. Deciding to stay sober for now still seems like the safest option. Why risk it when you’re feeling fine just as you are?

c1-salviaLeaf-nextChoice 2B: Smoke the 50x extract
The player notices all of the colours around them drip to the ground like paint runs down a wall. The player instantly forgets they have taken a drug and starts hearing their own thoughts, as if they are not their own, but rather a distant voice calling out to them. The player has now lost all sense of time and what could be one second, feels like an eternity. They assume by now, something seriously bad has happened to them and they must surely be dead.
Following the direction of the dripping colours, the player falls face-first off the chair they were sitting on, but instead of hitting the ground, they fall through the dirt and find themself surrounded by a multicolored psychedelic factory with lots of complex machinery. They find themself stuck on a conveyor belt with lots of other little beings on it. There are also beings watching the player travel along the conveyor belt, as if for their own amusement.
Before they know it, the player approaches a gigantic razor-sharp blade that proceeds to slice their body up into paper-thin sheets. The sheets of person start to fly rapidly to the left in a way that, to the player, feels like they are a book and their body is the pages in which they are flicking through. The player has now entirely forgotten what it felt like to ever have existed. Their body feels like it has now been destroyed and discarded, but their consciousness remains.
The player leaves the multicoloured factory and the conveyor belt speeds up, sending them flying down an equally-multicoloured tunnel. Approaching the light at the end of tunnel, the player feels like they are about to reach the end. (Not the end of the trip however, but the end of their consciousness.) As they reach the light, they feel their soul disintegrate, but instead of becoming nothing, they become everything. They realise the light at the end of the tunnel was the projector of the movie reel they have been watching their entire life. And that the light was actually them, and the projector wasn’t only projecting their own life movie, but the life of the whole universe. The player has an epiphany and realises they have been the universe their entire life. Not long after, they slowly begin to remember: they remember they have a body; they remember they were in a world; they remember that they took a drug; and they remember they were alive and okay.

Never having taken acid before, the player just assumes this is normal and swallows the tabs. The player soon finds out why people avoid this knock-off like the plague. Almost before they have any chance to regret it, they are catapulted into a glitchy, chaotic maelstrom of the mind that brings a foreboding sense of impending doom. The player’s body is engulfed by a sensation of pins and needles. They struggle to walk around now, stumbling over their own feet. The player feels a surge of nausea and they involuntarily dry reach but nothing comes out. An overwhelming sense of confusion overrides their ability to comprehend the simplest things. The player feels like they have just dropped 100 IQ, unable to even string together a coherent sentence. Uttering unintelligible noises to Kyra, she understands that the player is in trouble and they need help. She tells the player that she’s going to try to find someone with some ‘trip killers’ (benzodiazepine), and leaves them with Andrew. The player’s field of view begins to pixelate, fragmenting their vision like shattered glass. The player collapses on the ground. White noise covers their sight and renders them effectively blind. All of a sudden, everything stops. The player is transported to an infinite dark abyss. Out of nowhere, their entire life flashes before their eyes. Reality as they know it is now long gone. Their life only minutes before now feels like a distant memory and the player wonders “was my entire life just a thought of someone on their deathbed?”. They hear some trying to speak to them as if attempting to wake them up. The player opens their eyes to find they are laying on a gurney in a mental hospital. They turn to someone standing next to them and ask “am I tripping?”. The person replies, “you tripped 5 years ago”. A deep feeling of regret and panic rushes over the player. All they want is to go back. They close their eyes again and wake up to their aching body lying on the ground, but something’s not right - their mind has snapped reality in half and a fear that shakes them to their core makes them question if they will be stuck like this forever. The player feels like their mind has broken beyond repair. Out of the corner of their eye, the player sees someone running towards them. It’s Kyra. She says she has the trip killers.

Heightened introspection causes the player to feel like they are too embarrassed about the way they are right now to be around anybody. They have the idea that they should go someplace quiet. They feel like they want to be alone and somewhere that feels like home. They remember their tent back at the campsite.

The player decides it would be best to leave the group and go back to their tent to be alone. They tell the group and they offer to walk them back but you tell them you are fine and to enjoy their night. They tell the player they won’t leave them alone til they know they are safe, so they walk the player back to the campsite and help them unzip the door and crawl inside. The player instantly feels so much better.
They are overwhelmed by a wave of appreciation and gratitude for having such caring friends. The feelings of gratitude are so strong that they override the nausea - the player forgets they were ever in any pain. Warm fuzzies cover the player like a blanket and they drift off into a dreamlike state where they realise they are in the process of deep internal transformation. Sensations of electrical pulsations within the brain like firing synapses and rapid connections of new neural pathways are felt by the player. Abstract concepts, paradoxical ideas, and ineffable realisations are coming to the player with complete clarity - things that are inherently unknowable are suddenly making sense.
The player has never believed in God, but now feels as if ‘He’ is speaking to them directly. They are told everything is okay and that they have done nothing wrong. They are loved, and they are enough. All anxiety has now long gone and they feel at peace with themselves and the ordeal they have just endured. They feel they have nothing to apologise about, and that they have a great weekend ahead of them.
They feel ready to leave the tent, so they get up, put on some warmer clothes, and join their friends outside who are sitting around a campfire. They ask the player if they are okay and what happened to them, but they struggle to put it into words. Kyra tells the player that they will be integrating the experience for some time, but eventually it will be clearer. The player promises to tell them about it when they are able to.
c3-d2-p1-mushrooms-tentThe player’s anxiety and paranoia has now escalated to full-blown fear. They worry that they are going to stay like this forever. Everything becomes too much for the player and they drop to the ground and curl into a fetal position. Their friends try to snap them out of it and cheer them up, but to no avail, their journey is now beyond the point of no return. They remain in a catatonic state for the remainder of the trip. Once the mushrooms finally wear off, they are embarrassed in front of their friends and strangers. The trip may be over, but their anxiety hasn’t ceased. The prospect of them enjoying themselves and being able to party this weekend seems too far gone and exhausting now, so they decide to leave the festival early and head home. The player wonders how differently things would have gone if they decided to sit down and relax when they felt the urge to.

Why risk it when you’re feeling fine just as you are?
c3-d2-p3Choice 1A: Smoke the leaf
The player feels a bit shaken up by the experience, but fine overall and happy to be out of it.
c3-salviaLeaf-nextChoice 2B: Smoke the 50x extract

They spend most of the remainder of the trip exploring the forest undisturbed by strangers. The serene environment brings a sense of peace to the group. All the colours around the player grow more vibrant as they fall deeper into a state of tranquility. The ground, trees, rocks and plants appear to breathe and seem just as alive as the player. The setting sun peeks through the trees, shining beams of light that refract a rainbow in thin air. It feels just like how the woods are described in children’s fairy tales - magical in the purest form. Everything feels realer than real, as if a veil of ignorance has been pulled away leaving everyone seeing what is usually hidden from their eyes. Everyone expresses how glad they are that they came to the forest. The player feels like they are the happiest they have ever been. It is for each, the highlight of their weekend. The player becomes quiet and lost in thought, remembering recent events and realising how they actually affected other people on a subjective level. Other’s opinions of the player begin to weigh-down on them. As your body gradually merges with the light, you feel like you are being submerged into the warmest, cosiest, most revitalising bath of your entire life. The light is up to your shoulders now, you take one final breath, and your body is gone…
But you remain.

<img src="images/anxietyMeter_yellow.png" class="fix"/>You feel free now. The freest you have ever been. And you had the feeling you weren't alone here either. Though you couldn’t see anyone or anything around you, you knew they were here. Suddenly, they appear. Swimming into sight are these long, flowing, rainbow-striped serpentine beings. They say they knew you and were thrilled to see you! They celebrate your arrival and it feels comforting, like you are back home. They said, follow us, and they wriggled off into the distance, and you followed not far behind. Able to fly in this space, you are now moving faster than you ever have before. Trailing behind your serpentine friends, you suddenly hit another barrier and break through into a space of vast abstract landscapes of hyperdimensional geometry. Together, you soar at the speed of light through alternate dimensions, alien worlds and distant galaxies. You felt like you could’ve been there for days, or years before you remembered that you have a body and you were a person. Falling back into your body now, you took a few deep breaths to remind yourself that you had lungs. You knew it was time to say goodbye to your hyperdimensional snake friends, and so you did, gradually returning back to Earth. You open your eyes, and everything is as it was.
“How long was I gone?”, you ask Kyra as you slowly get yourself up off the ground to sit beside her.
“Oh hey you, welcome back! What, like not even 10 minutes?”

Everyone else does the same, but just before you go, you get a fellow camper to take a photo of everyone to immortalise the memory.
You say one final goodbye to the beautiful land on which the festival was held before jumping in the car and tearing off down the dirt road with Kyra's sound system blaring her favourite psytrance playlist.
c2-end
<img src="images/anxietyMeter_empty.png" class="fix"/>You spend some time reorienting yourself with reality, before dancing for the rest of the night making the most of every last moment before everyone has to leave and return to society.
You party on til the sun comes up and the music reaches it's peak for the weekend before gracefully descending into a chill vibe which sends everyone back to their campsites ready to bring the weekend to an end.
You walk with your friends back to where you have your tents set up, looking behind to the emptying dancefloor stage being lit by the crack of dawn. You reminisce over what an awesome weekend this has been. So many amazing memories that you know you will have a hard time forgetting.

Everything feels realer than real, as if a veil of ignorance has been pulled away leaving everyone seeing what is usually hidden from their eyes. Everyone expresses how glad they are that they came to the forest. You feel as if you are the happiest they have ever been. It is for each, the highlight of their weekend. It each it feels like one of the most special moments of your lives and you don’t want it to end.

<img src="images/anxietyMeter_empty.png" class="fix"/>The group stumbles upon a picturesque narrow stream cutting through the middle of the forest.
Kyra: //"Wow this is beautiful guys! I think we made the right decision coming here - I don't think anything back at the festival can top this. Right?"//
Everyone agrees and takes a seat on the water's edge.
Kyra: "Well I think think this might just be the perfect place to spark up a doob, anyone keen?"
She pulls a pre-rolled joint out of her pocket and gets it started. Andrew gingerly takes it from her and takes a puff like it's the first time he's smoked anything. He coughs up a lung and passes it on to you.
Kyra lets out a big sigh of relaxation, and lies back against the base of the tree she is sitting in front of.
Holding the joint, you consider whether you should take a puff.

<img src="images/anxietyMeter_green.png" class="fix"/>You decide to go ahead and take a puff. Putting it to your mouth, you are taken back to all the times you have been around weed - the smell is extremely nostalgic. You take a long deep drag, and the smoke fills your lungs. You feel an instantaneous change in your perception; as if your hearing wasn't amplified by the acid enough already, every sound in the forest now comes to the forefront - you could hear the footstep of an ant. You take another puff for good measure and pass it back to Kyra.
You take a cue from Kyra, lie back and close your eyes as well. You are feeling a substantially increasing amplification of all your senses now. Behind closed eyelids, you are mesmerised by a kaleidoscope of swirling rainbow spirals. The rainbow spectrum contains indescribable colours you have never seen before. Each spiral you look at causes more spirals to branch off and it keeps fractaling-on forever. You lose yourself in a maze of infinity and forget where you even are or what you are doing. You completely engrossed in what is going on within your brain that you don't even notice time flying by.

<img src="images/anxietyMeter_green.png" class="fix"/>You decide you are at a good level right now and don't want to potentially upset the high you are on right now so you pass the joint back to Kyra, before following suit and lying back to see what closing your eyes is like as well. Almost as if you can see everything around you in perfect clarity behind closed eyelids, yourself living through the ground you are sitting on; the rocks beside you; the trees surrounding you - you experience yourself around you as one, and you are one with it. Through this new lens of perception, the seperation between objects and individual beings dissolve; there is no border between you and the air breathe - the air is just as much your body as your body is the air.
A strange instantaneous spark of unity flashes between three of you merge and forget who you individually are. In that moment you could have just as easily been Kyra or Andrew, or all three of you at once. This shared experience causes you all to open your eyes and look at each other.

On the long walk back you ponder some abstract concepts that you never really think about; "How weird is it that humans are like upside down trees that move around in transparent soil, and our hair is like the roots..."
The group is fairly silent so you assume you mustn't be the only one is this contemplative headspace.
As you begin to approach the festival, the thumping of the bassy music brings a welcomed sense of familiarity - it is nice to be back.
The group arrives at the edge of the dancefloor and feels like this might be a nice play to spend the rest of the trip.

She taps out the ashes from her empty pipe, packs it full of 50x, clears it in one hit and lies back on the ground and closes her eyes.
Around 10 minutes later she comes back and tells you all about what it was like.
Andrew not interested in trying it, asks the group, //"So what now?"//
Kyra: "We can go adventure around for a bit if y'all keen?"
