For those who don't know, the Three Peaks Trial is a real Challenge Walk and now the oldest event of this type in the UK. It was set up in 1963 by Chris Barber, an Abergavenny writer of many books on walking in the Brecon Beacons. This is a text adventure game version of the Three Peaks Trial aimed at younger entrants to test some of their navigation skills. To make it a bit more interesting there's a few 'fun' questions as well!
What is a Challenge Walk? - A Challenge Walk is an event where participants use map reading skills to make their way between Checkpoints, rather like orienteering. There are marshals at checkpoints with refreshments at the end for when walkers complete the event. Walkers also receive a certificate if they complete the event successfully.
The Three Peaks Trial has four routes but this game is based just on the 20 mile 'Gold' route which starts at Halls next to the Fairfield Car Park in Abergavenny then goes over the three mountains around Abergavenny, Blorenge, Sugar Loaf and Skirrid Fawr.
Please note that this game version is still being developed and currently the challenge is only to get to the summit of the first peak, Blorenge.
