Ok, my house is currently in a funny state with the internet. This picture will hopefully explain how the wiring is currently done:

Now this is the problem, we've just added a new computer in the attic, BUT it can't get internet unless you pull the internet cable coming from downstairs and shove it in the machine, which means the other upstairs computer don't get the internet as you just unplugged it. I'm definite the 'white box' in the attic is down up backwards, and the internet cable should go in the back, split into two so you can have one cable going to the attic computer and one to the second router. I know basically what needs to be done, and vaguely how to do it, but I have never rewired internet cables before (though watch my dad set up this crazy system years ago).

Basically I need advice/instructions on how to reverse the backwards white box in the attic, so both sets of computers are connected. I'd appriciate any help you can offer.

You'll either need a second (long) cable, or you'll need some shorter cables and a hub or router.

Could you look and see which cables (if any) are connected to the WAN port on the router?

And now it's worse because looking inside the white box in the attic seems to have broken it, and now my brother's threatening to kill me because his internet won't work...

The fact that you don't even know what the "White box" is kinda makes it stupid that you looked INSIDE of it anyway... Why the hell would you take it apart. I think you should call a specialist to come and sort it out since obviously you're 1 step away from destroying the entire thing, especially since you're pulling electronic boxes apart to try and figure out how to fix it.

Take my advice, before you screw everything up.

Looking on the positive side of things, if your brother kills you, you won't have to worry about this problem any longer.

I think you need to forget about the white noise and hook up a black box for your cable viewing pleasure. Flip the channels to see if the movie "Pi" is on. Watch "Pi" and take notes for how to hook up complex computer connections. And as far as your brother goes... put him in the attic and deny him dinner unless he stops his squealing.

Lolz. And the white box, zelimos, is simply a plastic casing with a tiny bit of electronics inside and I didn't touch the wiring. Thanks for helping guys, the internet has seemed to stable itself again somehow, and my brother isn't applying for a lisense to kill anymore. I think the wiring throughout hte house to dodgey or loose or something like that but it's ok at the moment. A friend of my mum's knows about this stuff and is planning to amybe come round sometime to have a look at it. Lolz. Anyways it's ok for now.
