I'm unsure of how to make an object capable of unlocking an exit.

As stated in the title, I don't know exactly what to do. I don't know if I'm stupid or if the tutorial is just outdated, but regardless of what it is, I need a helping hand.

Have you seen this page:

http://docs.textadventures.co.uk/quest/tutorial/using_lockable_exits.html

Oh, I did check that. The problem I'm having is that the exit doesn't have several of those options, such as making verbs applicable to it. I will send a screenshot in the next couple of hours.

Since I just now realized that I cannot upload screenshots, I will attempt to explain to the best of my ability. When I am at the "exit", it only has the options Exit and Attribute. Is there something I have missed? There probably is.

First question: are you using the gamebook part of quest or the adventure part?

I'm using the quest part.

okay, what tab are you on when you're only seeing exit and attribute? and are you using the online or the desktop version?

I am currently using the desktop version, and I am at the "Exit" tab. The link above shows a screenshot. Had I been able, I would have displayed it in the forum as is.

There's no link above, just the text, screen shot. can you just paste the URL?

I typed this on another thing. I'll post this here.
"I was messing with how to make a game. I was making a Pokémon-based game.

I found how to "lock," and "unlock." (web version)

To lock, just press the lock option.

The unlock option is trickier. But I suppose you can figure it out. You make an object. ...It's a good idea to have an exit pre-made. I used a "trainer" as a key. ...I made it so "he" KEEPS the route unlocked at all time! Turn off simple mode. On the object, or key, go to verbs. Add (something here). Pick unlock exit. Then name exit. ...The place you want unlocked. I suppose it's possible to somehow time this whole process.
I suppose it would be possible to make that "object" somewhere else, and make the player able to pick it up."

okay, well, if you look on the exits tab, there's a check box underneath the check box for Locked and the message to print if the exit is locked. That check box is run a script.

ON the page that PIxie posted, the instructions for locked exit, it states you'll need to create a script. To do that, first check the checkbox for run a script, then follow the instructions on the tutorial page Pixie posted to create the necessary script.

I think jmnevil54 likely gave us the cause (of this missing feature issue for zerotsu) in his/her post: simple mode

jmnevil pointed out in his/her post about NOT being in the 'simple' mode (I think this is a toggle/option when you create the game --- I think... it's been so long since I've dealt with it, lol), which I and most people probably forget exists. Simple mode has almost no features... which could explain why zerotsu isn't seeing the features.

We (who've been with quest for some years) always think in terms of GameBook vs Text Adventure and/or offline/desktop vs web/online, forgetting that there's a sandbox 'simple' mode option for just learning the extreme basics (and thus having almost no features), as we never have this option toggled on, and thus totally forget it exists.

Since zerotsu says he/she is using Text Adventure and not GameBook and also is using the desktop/offline and not the web/online, than I think it's probably that he/she is still using the 'simple' mode, and not the normal mode, as the source/cause/reason for not seeing the features, as we are.

found the info on 'simple' mode:

http://docs.textadventures.co.uk/quest/tutorial/creating_a_simple_game.html (scroll down about half way, there's a section called 'simple mode'), or jsut look below:

Simple Mode
When starting out with Quest, you may find it easier to run in “Simple Mode”. This hides much of Quest’s more advanced functionality, but still gives you access to the core features.

You can toggle Simple Mode on or off at any time:

on the Windows desktop version, you can toggle Simple Mode from the Tools menu.
on the web version, click the Settings button at the top right of the screen.
