Arrrhhh...Oh God & Baby Jesus

Dr.Froth
 This sucks....

The guitarest/co-songwriter for my comedy trio "Dr. Froth & Saftey Third" is moving six hundred miles away....at least the album will be recorded before he bails. That is so lame it makes me want to hit myself in the genitals with a pick-ax...more than once.

I guess it's back to playing bass for crazy prog bands again...

You guys should check out the comedy album called "Farma Sutra" when it is released later this year...I'll let ya know when...

Bummed,

Dr. Froth

Sucks. I've been in bands since I was 12, my first being the school orchestra :D I have a home studio set up here, but the local music scene has sunk to a really low level, and now consists of idiotic power-hungry, self-involved, arrogant gits, who are too stuck up to support the rest of the bands around the town.

There is a good selection of clubs and bars here, one of which I work in, which provide fantastic opportunities for bands, but they just don't seem to want to work hard for themselves.

It's a tricky business.

Dr.Froth
:D I regret to inform you that things are not much differant on my side of the planet. What are you using to record? I have been a big fan of MOTU (Digital Performer) but of course you cannot discount ProTools.

GameBoy
I use a Tascam DP-01FX/CD Porta Studio. Got a Marshall MG 100 HDFX half stack, Zoom Fire-30 which I plug into the box, I use a Peavey Millenium Bass, and BC Rich Warlock guitar, and a Peavey IS 2 drum kit. I used to have a Yamaha DXIII electric kit, but it wasn't mine so I had to give it back heh.

I use Audio Technica and Sky Tronic mics for recording too.

The Unknown
My studio: Cakewalk homestudio. Marshall 1/2 stack. Les paul, Carvin custom made, peavey milestone...various effects, bells and wistles..

Dr.Froth
:o Hell Yeah to both you guys. I am the process of selling most of my gear to one of my cliants and then I'm going to reinvesting that into a mobile set up. I am going to keep the Nueman M-147 (and the other killer mics) but get rid of my G4 in favor of a laptop (also G4) and instead of using the MOTU 2408, I'm going to get two (maybe three) MOTU 898 HD's and rack those babys up in a shock mount road ready case. Much as I hate Rap music, there is a lot of business for it down here and I think the mobile studio will be optimal to squeeze every last dollar from this wonderful drug-fueled underground economy.

As far as a musician, I am a bass player. I play a handmade Pedulla 5-string Thunderbass. (Though in the comedy band I just sing (if you call it that) and play some accoustic guitar). I am speaking with a luthier right now about custom building me a nine string bass...more on that project will follow.

I hat my monitors (Tannoy Reveals) what are you guys using?

Stay frought with fervor,

Dr. Froth

GameBoy
I don't have proper monitors sadly, although I was going to get a very good deal on a pair of Yamaha ones, worth around 900, selling for 250. Sadly couldn't afford it at the time, and they'd gone a few days later.

I to am selling off my performing and recording gear, and going to get a PA, complete with a couple of decks. Pioneer are very good, but too expensive, heh. I'm hoping to get some DJing jobs.

GameBoy
weeee, just bought myself a TonePort UX2, far better and far more cheaper than my DP-01FX/CD

It's not a porta studio, so it connects strait into the computer. Luckily I have a spare computer to install all the music recording stuff on. I'm buying some good quality speakers soon also. They're not proper monitors but they sound amazing, great for digital mixing on the computer.

Will be getting a copy of Cubase SX also.
