Hi (again) all

Although I've not been around the Quest forums much for a LONG time, just thought I'd tell those who remember me (and/or my libraries for Quest) from the early days of Q1 through to Q3, that I expect to be back and taking an active part in the forums again starting from, well, now really!

Why now? Well my original collaborator is now back at work after some considerable time off due to family considerations, and this time wants to write a game for general consumption. This means that we should be able to contribute more than just the incidental code and libraries we've output in the past.

We did discuss at length using TADS 3, Inform 7 or Alan instead of Quest, but the (much maligned in some quarters) Quest GUI player which was so important and the deciding factor in using Quest for our earlier efforts has won out, so Quest it will be.

All I have to do now is get up to speed with Q4, I suspect my brain is still firmly stuck in Q3 mode :-)

Regards

Hi Al. Nice to hear from you again, and that you're back in the saddle!

That's great! I hope you plan on creating another library and/or libraries. What kind of game are you and your collaborator thinking of working on?

MaDbRiT
Thank you Alf / Overcat

My collaborator is a history teacher and we're currently discussing the merits of a game set in the 18th century vs a game set in Clausentum, about 200 BC :-)

Either way it'll be a single player traditional style game, to a point. I'm hoping for multiple plot paths and that the player won't exactly 'win' or 'lose' as such, more want to have another go and do better :-)

As I tend towards a modular approach in coding, there's a fair chance some reusable 'libraries' may well result.

Cheers!

Welcome back.

Welcome back too, MaDbRiT.

Are you planning a new version of the typelib at all or not? Just asking.

Well a lot of what Typelib did (containers and NPC containers etc) is integral with Quest now, so proving it was a good idea to implement them

Typelib as was is largely obsolete as a result, but there are still a few things left in it and some new things that were never in it, which will no doubt escape as a library at some point.

Cheers

Welcome back to Quest!, glad you chose quest over the other ones. :)
