Maybe we should have our own competition. Sort of like the Interactive Fiction Competition, but for Quest only. We could all make a short game, or larger if you want. If everyone enters it could be interesting. There's how many people here that could write a small game? 10?

ALex doesn't program Quest games for a start. I'm not sure about Al but I don't think he does either. I reckon it's a good idea, but it might take some time to set up, and some time to roll in the games, then we'd need a judge! It'd be hard, but worth it

Al does write games, but they're for a teacher friend of his, I think.

just because they dont write games now, doesnt mean they wont EVER write one... why else would they be here, why else would they be so dam good at MAKING GAMES USING ASL? Alex probably wouldnt make one but the other experts would.

I would make one - but I'm just SO busy right now - I find it hard just to actually get onto my computer - let alone do anything on it.
.... I'd enter a competition but I'm goin to have to cut back some other stuff first.
Oh, Ste - coding/making games are two totally different things. We might code it perfectly, but have a crappy command system so the player can't do alot with the system. The storyline might suck. Stuff like that.
I agree a comp would be nice... I'd enter with a short game, but not right now.

I'd enter, I have a few good ideas I've been kicking around for a long time. Probably put in a really open ended leveling rpg but have you able to play through it in 2 hours if you really forced through it fast.

Hmmm, at least there's a little enthusiasm. What makes you think Alex would make a good game? Just because of Quest and QDK? I'm not saying he couldn't do it, because I have no clue. Also, I've never seen or heard of Al writing an interactive fiction game, although he could be very capable. If we do ever have a competition, there should be a restriction in size or something to prevent someone from making a large game that would blow the others away.

Large games don't necessarily make good games. You might enter a massive game in a comp and find everyone getting bored of it long before the end. Or you might enter a short game and find people like it because it's short and doesn't take an age to finish.

Size doesn't mean it's a long game either... I could make one over 50 K and it still would be only a couple of rooms big - the most of the file would be on the commands and complexity.
So a size limit is really a bad idea.

you could make a game with 1 room, but use commands and a very complex map system with the ONE room lol.

I guess. Maybe a time limit then?

Development time or game-play time?
Both are as silly as the last.
Development time - you may have had a bad time recently and only been able to do a small amount of work in 3 months, making the game nothing in that amount of time. Also time spend on a game once again <> good game.
Game-play time - is totally up to the player. They can go at their own pace through the game, and either take 20 hours doing a game or 20 minutes.
