Winsock control problems

I need help with the Winsock control in VB. Every time I open sourcecode that has it in it gives me an error saying that I don't have the right privilages to use this control. If I don't, how come so many others do? I'm running Win 98 (No SE), VB6, One user (well no user really, but when you have a home network Windows always prompts you for one). Any ideas?

Warez copy of VB probably... Or something like that - I have a couple of controls that do that in my copy.

No, it's not. I know that for certain, because the person who I borrowed the disc off bought it from a computer store.

I was just saying, because the warez copy doesn't register all the DLL's properly etc... And you do know there are stores that sell warez copies don't you :P .

Unless it comes on an authentic disc with an authentic book (or whatever VB6 comes with) then it's not authentic (just saying - because "he baught it from a store" doesn't mean a thing).

Well the case that I was given it in certaintly looked authentic enough. Is there any way that I could use the Winsock control, or do I have to get a totally new version of VB6?

Erm, I don't know.... But I think registering the DLL might work... Using the run command or the command line... I'm not really sure as I haven't even tried to use the stuff I can't get to work as they're unimportant crap.

Are you sure you're using the right winsock and not some other winsock by some shite company?

That might be a thing to check out. I'll have to wait until I get back to my development machine.

What edition of VB is it? If it's the Learning or Standard edition you might not be able to use the Winsock control or something. Another app might have put the Winsock control on your machine, but you won't have a licence to develop with it.

This may or may not be the case - just a thought.

I've got VB6 Enterprise edition.
