Old Quest Users

Cryophile
How many of you are from the old days of Quest (pre 3.0)?

davidw
3.0 for me.

Cryophile
In case any of the newer people here think 3.0 means you're a newbie that's not true. 3.0 has been around for a couple years now. Also, how long you're around has little to do with skill. Although it does help a bit.

Alex
Version 3.0 was released in September 2001, which is three and a half years ago now, so if you've been using Quest since then you're something of an old-timer.

Hands up if this looks familiar:

francisstokes
alex,
are the older versions still available for download?

davidw
I actually prefer the way Quest 2.0 splits the characters and objects into separate areas.

paul_one
Eh, there was no real difference - which was why Alex got rid of them.

*put's both hands up*
I remember 1.02 beta - if that's possible...
I still have a file or two from QDK 1.02 somewhere!!

Although I am probably an "old-timer", I hven't been in here for too long, as I got my original Quest 2.19 or something, from a CD, which I didn't fully use for a month or two.
I had to download the newer version, and became a member here soon after.

davidw
It just seems more logical to me to split up characters and objects. After all, one's a character, the other's an object. They're completely different so why lump them all together?

Maybe I just like the idea of them being split up because it keeps everything nice and tidy.

francisstokes
They maybe the same thing, but i DOES seem logical to split them up.Cleaner and Clearer is what i say.

Alex
CW, what CD was Quest 2.19 on?

I don't make the old versions available for download, but somewhere out there you may be able to find them. Why would you want them though...??

As for splitting up characters and objects, they are the same thing in Quest 3.0 and later. They were different in earlier versions, but that basically just meant a lot of pointless code duplication. I think it makes sense in terms of the Quest architecture that objects and characters are the same thing, but maybe it would help if in QDK you could choose to display them separately? Maybe if it showed a display type column and you could sort by it?

paul_one
A display type column would be nice IMO!

And I think it was a PCutilities CD, although don't quote me 100% sure on that..
It was a long time ago - and I may have thrown out the CD.

... Thinking about that I'm wondering if I SHOULD get rid of some of these CD's... Nothing to keep them for.
I'll check for an early version of Quest around here somewhere.

When were collectables abolished? I remember them for at least 3 updates or so. I was one of the users on the first forums. When I came it was on page 3 of them. The only 3 I remember other than me are CW, MaDbRiT, and Alex. CW joined the forums a few weeks or so after I did. I went by the name Pikaflare, then Maxpowr, and finally S1aY3R. Once again, sorry for defacing the forums back then, Alex :(
I was an evil youngster.

One thing I'd like to see was the option to display all the items in the game all the time. At the moment, they're only displayed if they're in the room you're currently editing. What if I have a 50 room game and need to edit an object, only I can't remember which room it's in? I need to click each room in turn to discover that.

007bond
That would be a debugging option, not a full feature of the game. I first got Quest about early 2003, but only joined the forums early last year, and by that time, I think v3.5 was out.

GameBoy
i actually played with and used the very first Quest/QDK editor, which apparently wasn't actually released. If any of you remember, i posted some screenshots when the old forum was around.

I might have joined in the 2.0 era, or early 3.0. can't remember

paul_one
I actually arrived here JUST after the forum's before these..
2000-ish I guess.
Although I wasn't on the one before that (the black one - really crappy).

I didn't notice Pikaflare until a few months after I joined.

Cryophile
I just noticed that my first game was made with Quest 1.02 :)
It's been a while I guess.
