I'm having computer problems. To say the least. When I click on my user name at the login screen, it logs out a second after I log in. I tried to do safe mode but that doesn't either work. The technical support guy didn't help. He said it's probably a corrupt file, which I have no clue how I could have gotten anyway. It's Windows XP Home Edition, by the way. So I called up a few computer repair specialists, and they said that they could probably fix it, and they had heard of that before. One said that it's probably missing a driver. But I can't bring it in, as I don't have the cash right now. However, I have lots of info that I NEED, including some of the quest things that I have made, and can NOT lose it. Has anyone heard of this, and do you know how I can fix it? I would REALLY appreciate it.

reinstall windows XP. Don't re-format if you can, otherwise but your HDD in another comp and backup what you can. Windows XP reinstallation will reinstall and missing drivers or corrupt files.

If MS forced you to have two partitions, you could store all your data and programs on one, and windows on the other. Therefore, you could just reformat the windows partition and reinstall windows, therefore losing no data!

Windows doesn't force you into two partitions..

Try google for the answer.

Windows doesn't force you into two partitions..

And that's the problem! It should, so that people who are not as computer-literate as others will have less of a hard time! Here's a classic example!

Of course... They've known sine 98 (when 98 had that "restore last known good").
But they still only have one partition as default.

Of course, in install (of Pro at least) you can specify the size of the partitions... So make 2 or 3 or whatever..

Two things: 1) I didn't understand anything you just said
2), Tr0n, are also computer whizz but with a changed name? It would appear that way, I'm just making sure

instead of "recover last known good" I meant the regscan /restore option that you need to get at in DOS.
I had to do this in work 20 mins ago cos I fux0r0d up a PC while installing windows updates to win98 (orig - not SE). Anyway, this keeps 8 last good attempts of startup. Not sure if it's JUST the registry though.

And if you have XP pro, during install you can makes 5 partitions of sizes you want... I don't know if you can on home.

... And yes, I am CW... choosing to change my name.
