I'm just wondering whether it's possible to release a version of the Quest player that doesn't include the editor, that people could use to distribute their games? I'm working on a game right now and releasing the it when it's done is currently a bit of an issue for me. If people download Quest to play the game, not only is that an extra step for them which will be an issue for some people, but they would then have the ability to edit and mess around with the game, which is undesirable. And as for hosting the game on this site, that's not really desirable either as there are so many games hosted currently it's very difficult to get noticed, and I would actually prefer to host the game on my own website if I was going to go that route anyway, but that's not currently a viable solution.
From the sounds of it, Quest 6 would solve a lot of these issues, but I also don't want to wait until that is released to start working on my game, and my knowledge of JavaScript isn't strong enough to use Quest 6 in it's current state.
The published version of a Quest game is not editable (not without a lot of effort and know-how anyway), as it gets combined with libraries, has all the editor data stripped out and is zipped up. So the inclusion of the editor with the player is not an issue.
If you are wanting a single download, game+player, then that is not possible. It is something people have requested for years, and Alex never solved, so I am sure I cannot. A big part of the motivation for Quest 6 is to get around that.
Not ideal, but linking to here from your own site might be best. You would get the same visibility as hosting it yourself, but much easier.
Or, learn a "full" programming language, like Visual Basic, and do ALL the coding for everything, and release it as an .exe...
Or, write the game in HTLM, and go that route...
If you are not a programmer, stick with Quest, it does all the underlying code for you so that you only need to write the story.

Quest 6 is definitely an easier option than that! Without an editor, you would need to know some JavaScript, but most of the hard work is done for you, and there are tutorials.

Yews, if you are doing it from scratch, do it as a web page, as players will be far more happy visiting a web page than downloading an .exe, with all the security issues that involves.
