When a girl has a child she often drops out of high school. In fact, parenthood is the leading reason that teen girls drop out. From 1990 to 2008 the teen pregnancy rates decreased 42%, from 117 to 68 pregnancies per 1000 teen girls. Eight out of ten teen fathers marry the mother of their child. Less than 2% of teen moms earn a college degree by the age of 30. Children of teen parents are more likely to experience learning difficulties than children of older parents.
