You are Corporal Carl Carlson. You are heading towards Normandy Beach on a landing craft for the U.S. Army. The date is June 6, 1944. You feel your craft hit land and you feel your heart beating faster in your chest. The doors drop, welcoming you to Europe and a hail of gunfire. The man next to you drops almost instantly.
