Chocolate Thai Fiasco of 93 (Sample) by Livernoche

I'm Shawn (aka S,) a founding member of the 90's New Jersey indi Hip-Hop group "The Mighty Buddha Heads.” Although we only ever finished one album as a group, "Speak of the Devil” in 1993, it has developed a cult following over the decades. I'm also a big fan of 80's text adventures like Zork, and with my wife I own and run a classic arcade company HighScoresArcade.com

I have a background in teaching, and the last two years I have been homeschooling my elementary age children. I decided to learn this text adventure program so I could create some simple, personalized adventures for my kids who are both emerging readers. They have enjoyed games such as "Wishbringer" so it was a no-brainer for me to take on a small project, learn Quest, then start making them custom learning adventures.

Chocolate Thai Fiasco of '93: The Sample Text Adventure

Instead of learning Quest by beginning with an academic adventure for my kids, I challenged myself to write my initial game that I always personally wanted to do, which would allow me create the unique hip-hop recording studio environment of my childhood home. My father was a sound engineer around the time I was 16 in 1993 and we lived, slept, and ate hip-hop recordings. In this small slice of the adventure -rated maybe PG-13? (a segment of Chapter 4 of 10- only two rooms) the player gets to be the third, unnamed member of our rap-group, and spend time looking around the bedroom recording studio, the living room, and even interact with a few items. LOOK at and TAKE every item you can, and be sure to USE the right items WITH the right other items! Also, if you're playing on a smart phone be sure to check your inventory, money, and points often by using the + symbol to the right of the text box!
In the larger game you will follow some of the Mighty Buddha Heads hip-hop adventures around New Jersey and New York during one of the best times in Hip-Hop history! Even those who are not die hard rap fans may appreciate the finished game when I have learned more Quest and I am able to bring it to completion.
Peace!

Chocolate Thai Fiasco of '93: The Text Adventure

It's the Spring of 1993. You're the DJ in one the of the area's only local Hip-Hop group's that have a single on college radio. A major opportunity has come up to perform and compete on Video Music Box, courtesy of beloved host, "Crazy Sam," and the winner gets a record deal!

The lead rapper in your group, S, has been partying too hard and is too wrapped up in his girlfriend to meet deadlines. The studio is booked, time is tight, and creativity has run dry on the beats!

As the contest date draws near, you get a call from a strange Hip-Hop "manager" Delorean, who has a DAT tape with the best instrumental in New Jersey that money can buy! Can you bring your group with S and B together and snatch first place on your own? Will you accept a dirty deal with Delorean to help you buy your way to head nods?

Is this new Wu Tang clan phenomenon really going to last? Dare you share your honest opinion about 14 Shots to the Dome? Is this World Wide Web thing they're talking about going to make what you learned on PRODIGY obsolete?
Is it really a choice between college basketball and music?
Scariest of all, are Delorean and these other "rap managers" buttering you up for shopping more than just your demo tape!?

Your Will determines what happens! As DJ for local rap group, Mighty Buddha Heads, you join S and B on some their greatest adventures in Hip-Hop! Enjoy The Chocolate Thai Fiasco of '93!
