Woo Rebooted by DavyB

You are Doctor Woo and the BARDIS, your space-time craft, is malfunctioning. Can you leave the surreal planet on which you have landed and resume your travels?

This is the latest revision of the Woo Goes Further text adventure series (http://textadventures.co.uk/games/view/NS08oB-ss02brmMcVrNv7w/woo-goes-even-further). In this version, all cruelty has been removed, apart, of course, from sudden death when you are timed out if playing online. Please download if you can, as this is a relatively long game, so playing online is not recommended, except to get a flavour of the game. Type 'about' for more information.

The game has a 1980s feel overall though some of the characters you encounter have more recent counterparts. Happy to provide hints if needed!

Awesome review joshtgb! Many thanks for those comments. A new version incorporating improvements in the two areas where you you had difficulties has already been uploaded.

Awesome game! DavyB did an excellent job with this continuation of the Woo series and was very helpful the one time I got hung up on one of the puzzles. The game itself is difficult enough that it is rewarding, but the solutions are logical and intuitive so as to not make the game frustrating. The ending was satisfying as well. The game was very well designed and thoroughly tested. I was very hard pressed to find any issues with it (and I'm the type that will find issues if they are there by accident or not). It was helpful for me to turn on the game panes which included a map - you can turn them on in the game options (type help). This game should have a lot more attention so please leave reviews or comments about your experiences as well so that others can find this gem. Thank you DavyB and team for a great experience!

...in relation to the passport problem, I did actually take that into account. If you "ask Patrick about passport" he hands it back to you even though it's not visible at that point. I'll change the code to leave the briefcase open!

You have made outstanding progress! Sorry for the issues, especially where you had to restart. There is an 'undo' but you may have been too far away to make that practical. I've also sent a message with another suggestion.

Alright I figured it out. I ran into a scenario where I had to restart the game. What happened is I gave the ID to 66 and then gave 66 the briefcase without first giving it to the librarian. The briefcase hid the ID so I could no longer access it. It might be a good idea to prevent that scenario from happening. Anyways I'm figuring it out now that I discovered that issue but I'll reach out if I get stuck again.

Good Catch. I seemed to encounter another minor bug where the task "For Pool: find a way to break the surface" is showing in both the "To Do" and "Completed" task lists. This may be due to me "leaping before looking" instead of "looking before leaping" when entering the pool but I'd have to go back and check to make sure.

Now I'm at chapter 5 and not sure what to do next. I'm pretty sure I know what I need to resolve "For Hell Viss: find him something to eat." based on the hints in the descriptions. In order to get that food item, I believe I need to help the owner of that food with his "sensitive problem". The only thing close to that that I could find was potentially something related to small Daniels but I'm not confident that is the right answer. Also I'm not sure if Daniels knotty problem is related to actual knots (i.e. rope) or a location but I haven't been able to figure anything out with what I currently have or with that location. A little nudge to point me in the right direction of what to solve next would be appreciated, thank you!

Inventory:
You are carrying a task list, a teleporter, an onion, a beermat, a bottle, a newspaper, a rat trap (containing a large piece of cheese and a rat (on which there is a metal tag)), a handbag, a rubber stopper, an egg, a thesaurus, a box of matches, a notebook, sunglasses (worn), a tube of glue, a route map, a painting, a candlestick (on which there is a candle), a flask of nitroglycerine, Brick Jagger, an axe, a welcome mat and a loaf of bread.

Tasks:
To Do
Goal: Escape from this surreal planet.
For fluid link: restore fluid link filled with mercury.
For Flying Killer Chickens: find protection from them.
For Cousin Itt: find a way to beat him at ten-pin bowling.
For The Fake Shaking Stevens: find him a bribe.
For Mrs Seadock: find ID to borrow a book.
For Olde House: find a key to open the green door.
For Doctor Black: find his killer or killers.

Oh, also meant to say that you have shown up an issue in the interaction with Trumper, as he should have stopped you opening the present while he was in the room. I'll correct that for the next release!

Ah, I had thought of that earlier because of the "smelling salt" hint but I must have used the wrong verb or something. I got it to work this time, thanks a million!

Sorry joshtgb, you do indeed need to revive Vidal. Did you give the pot of salt to Donald Trumper?

Thank you DavyB the nudges are much appreciated! Yes, I do have something to help with that, but before I do that I have to deal with Mrs. Giant blocking the path. I believe I've given her everything but the last thing that she wants. I assumed I'd need to revive Vidal in order to get the giant the last thing she wants, but maybe I'm missing something?

Glad you are enjoying the game. You have made excellent progress. One thing I see is that "For cottage: find a way to deal with the fumes " in your task list but are carrying something that solves the problem?

This is a large game so I'll be on hand to offer more nudges!

Great game so far. I'm stuck on chapter 3 - I can't figure out what Hambo wants for the tie or how to wake up the hair dresser. Although I'm not sure if these two are what I should be focusing on next anyways. Any hints are appreciated, thank you!

Here are my tasks:
For fluid link: restore fluid link filled with mercury.
For cottage: find a way to deal with the fumes.
For Flying Killer Chickens: find protection from them.
For Number 66: help him recover his memory.
For filing cabinet: find a way to pick the lock.
For Vidal Monsoon: find a way to revive him.
For Kojak: make him smile again.
For Michael McIntosh: find him some better jokes.
For Mountain Trail: wait for it open.
For Cousin Itt: find a way to beat him at ten-pin bowling.
For David Camwrong: get him a Mad Donna photo.
For The Fake Shaking Stevens: find him a bribe.
For Mrs Giant: stop her blocking your path.
For Even Job: get past him.
For Mrs Seadock: find ID to borrow a book.
For Olde House: find a key to open the green door.
For Donald McRonald: recruit new employee.

Sorry for the flurry of updates! Thanks to mrangel 'undo' now works appropriately in all of these games. The updates handle problems specific to some of the games but also provide workarounds for issues with the built-in 'undo' command so you might want to have a look at the discussion on the forum if you have a game that allows it:

Many thanks XanMag for that glowing review. Suggesting the game be considered for an Editor's Pick is praise indeed! It is admittedly a large game, though the recently introduced 'chapter' structure has hopefully broken it up into more manageable chunks. Also, the inclusion of a 'task list' provides a simple form of note-taking. The next substantial version will include a built-in help system for at least the first chapter, and in the meantime, the authors are on hand if you need a nudge!

Great game. This isn't a simple game - as no decent text adventure should be. You either need to have a GREAT memory or pay VERY close attention to some of the details in the descriptions, especially when talking and observing the NPCs (which there a lot of). For those of you whose memories are questionable or you read too fast in order to try new things (both things I am guilty of)... Something that worked really well for me was to copy-paste all of the game play into notepad (or other similar program) when you get stumped. Give it the old 'ctrl-f' and search for NPC names (or key words). By doing this, you can review information a lot easier and eliminate some of the guess work I had to do.

And you definitely want to download the game rather than trying to play online. Good luck!

This is one of the better games on the site and needs to be played by all TA enthusiasts. The whole game works really well. It's well written, challenging yet logical puzzles, and is well coded with no errors. Also, DavyB was incredibly quick to help when I stubbed my toe a few times. All-in-all, I really hope this ends up on the "Editor's Picks" on the main page so it gets the attention that it deserves. Well Done and Happy Gaming!

Many thanks rcsjr1951128 for that great review! I should say that the sound effects in the revised game were inspired by James Spaid's Podcast series (http://textadventures.co.uk/user/view/4ojnatf1wkwmgdan8a7zuw/james-spaid) and would have been impossible without the skill and generosity of those who created and made available sound effects at Freesound (https://freesound.org/)--thanks also to those who developed Audacity for editing sounds!

Finished the newest version of the game and would recommend it to anyone who really enjoys playing text adventure games. Built in maps, sound effects make it a real pleasure to play. If you have played older versions of the game your in for a real treat. New characters have been added. The story line has been changed and debugged to make it even more interesting. If you have never played it before please download a copy and give it a try. This game deserves a lot of respect and credit. Thanks to the creators of the game . This is by far one of my favorites that I will indeed play again.

Thanks timmyfjjffddj22! I had great fun adding sound effects last week, which I hope everyone will like...happy to hear from those who don't! ...and, of course, for those, there is a silent option.
