First, there was the nightfall. Of course, everyone expected it, but it was still painful to see the fading light, bound to reappear only in two months. Then, the seagulls stopped crying. The sea sang alone with the wind, occasionally accompanied by wharf crane clanging.
But the greatest sign was the shooting star: it arrived from nowhere and with a big flash sunk in the sea. Those who understood what it meant started either praying or packing. You were not one of them. You were not prepared for the snowfall blocking the way out of the 30-story building you live in. You were not prepared for the voices haunting you. You were not prepared for your own home to turn against you.
But it does not mean you won’t have to do something about it.
