When you enter into an interactive fiction game, you become not only the reader of a work, but also the participant, a character within the work that has been disembodied to exist within the technological medium of the interactive fiction piece. This then renders you in a suspended state, existing between two worlds: the “real” world and the “virtual” world. You are a cyborgic reader, a cultural monster that threatens what it means to be human.
