Once you get like 60+ cannons and 15+ armor all ship battles are too easy and repetitive. Afterwards there is no risk and it's more about completeing your journal log. But even after completing all the tasks from the log there is no "real" ending.
Too much grinding and little surprises makes a stale game, BUT at least it was somewhat enjoyable.
