Review for Whitefield Academy of Witchcraft
22 May 2014
Unsurprisingly clever and quirky; just what you want in an adventure game! It operates on a plane of logic not nearly as far removed from our own as some old-school point-and-click adventures did. As such, you can expect to be stuck pondering some puzzles, but the mix between straightforward and less obvious ones is good. There are points in the game where I was stuck repeatedly, but for the most part, the game flows well, easing you in on a tide of solved puzzles before dumping you off at one you can't crack. For a while.
The writing is good and manages to deliver exposition throughout without resorting to info dumping -- except in one instance. It would have been nice if some information could have been delivered through conversation choices for each character, but I acknowledge that this is a limitation of the format.
In other words: when can we expect the Kickstarter? Though the game runs on the world's most powerful graphics chip, but it would have been great to see this creativity unleashed within a point-and-click framework!
