Good Night by XanMag

You are an insomniac who doesn't want to sleep. Sleep brings nightmares too real and too vivid. Images of tragedy in your past. What happens when you can no longer stay awake?

A short game with horror elements. Is not suitable for children due to violent themes.

WARNING: Save game has been disabled. It's short enough, you do not need to save it anyway!

Play with volume and with headphones. And in the dark if you dare.

There are NO links to click here. All you need to do is:
1. Examine - 'x [object]' - many objects, especially those underlined and in bold.
2. Think about many objects - 't [object]' - as well, as new information may be revealed by doing so.

NOTICE: As the player, you determine your depth of understanding of the story. Thinking and examining things is all you need to do to move the story forward. This is not your traditional 'hunt & find' text adventure with a bunch of puzzles that need solving. It is more like a CYOA than my other games but hopefully you will enjoy it nonetheless.

After a recent replay to check something, there were some very tiny typos that were bothering me so I corrected them and republished. Also, after republication, I'm always a tad bit worried something might have goofed, so if you notice anything overtly erred please point it out. Happy gaming!

Thanks for playing.

It’s been a while, but... Good Night is turn based, so there should be no getting stuck. You should be able to continue trying to think or examine things and the game will progress. If this isn’t the case, let me know and I’ll check into it more deeply. Feel free to PM me too.

Try ‘x voice’ or ‘t voice’ possibly.

I'm stuck, I get to hearing her voice or hearing a voice from the son's room and can't do anything

I played it. It was a good game. Not my taste, but I'm sure it's to someone's taste.
Well done design and story. Game and font looks good. It's a bit confusing at times, but I got through most of the game.

Wow, this was really well done, bravo! I got chills during the game. While not much of a CYOA this was still fantastic. The font and colors mixed perfectly as to give off a creepy vibe but was still easy to read and the sound effects were superb. Not to mention the dark theme was, well dark like a proper horror story. :). I look forward to seeing more of your games.

There was little to do, besides look at various items or listen to sounds. Other then that, there was nothing else I could do.

@Hormus,

I wish you would be a little more specific. “I see no point in playing this game...” does not help the potential players understand your perspective nor does it help the author consider your opinion of the game if they could be persuaded to make changes. If you would be so kind as to pm me a further explanation, it would help a great deal...

I see no point in playing this game.....

Hopefully this doesn't deter your opinion of the game, but...

At the point where you wake up from being killed...

And the clock on the 'padded-white wall reads 12:01.'

Spoilers below...

The game is over. Nothing happens beyond this.

The idea is that you, as the player, realize that the main character is... *SERIOUSLY, SPOILER BELOW, don't read it if you haven't played it through yet!*

..in a dream within a dream. The MC is not what he appears to be and every night he has this nightmare. He is reliving the same visions in his nightmare every night from the confinement of his padded cell within an insane asylum. Was he the murderer or just tormented to the point of insanity?

I hope you enjoyed and I hope this clears things up! =)

Awesome game....however I always die shortly after waking up from the nightmare.

It just says, "It comes crashing down on this nightmare version of you. Just as it pierces the skin, you shoot up in bed. Wide awake...

Your thrashing ceases. Your fight to free yourself from the straitjacket is fruitless.

The clock on the padded white wall reads 12:01."

and then I die....

So...well...how can I not die?

It's an amazing game though. Pretty creepy.

All you need to do is type ‘x [object]’ to examine any relevant object in the game or ‘t [object]’ to think about any relevant object in the game. Most relevant objects are underlined in the reading.

Doing so will give you more information about the object and make the game progress. The more you examine and think about things, the more background information you’ll have when the story comes to a close.

how do you play your game

A well put-together story, a good example of a simple idea developed really well...

I played on a laptop, but I didn't get any audio. I even raised my volume to the max just in case.

Nice game, GREAT GRAMMAR, and a FANTASTIC STORY. Very creepy with the added voices, I honestly wouldn't want to play this game alone in the dark! Controls are easy (especially when I can use them!), the font has been improved! Kudos to the "stranger" that created this game! 5 STAR WORTHY! =)

Awww, man. Yeah. It doesn't work well on mobile. The audio doesn't trigger properly I don't think. If you get a chance, try to get it on a PC. I think you might like it?

Anyway, I may when I have time try to get a mobile version of it going, but they may take a while! Until then maybe? Happy gaming.

Sorry Xmag. I was using an iPad . I think command bar on your game is turned off. No keyboard pops up. I don't have a physical keyboard at present.

@Father,

I've removed the links. If you type 'x furniture' or 't furniture' (think about) you will get responses. It's a true parser game. No point and click here!! =)

I realize that may turn a few away, but I prefer typing. Call me old school. Hope you can still enjoy!

Tried to play on line. Clicked on furniture( only underlined word) nothing happened. Got no further?
