Having had a look at the source, I'd say don't bang your head about this. It looks incomplete (whether intentional or not, I don't know). The only hint: there are a handful of verbs you can use on the characters, but that's about it. There aren't really any more conversation topics. And don't expect much from the verbs...

I'm having the same problem as Sarah. I get responses from asking them about "estate" and "Holtzman", but I can't divine what I should ask them about next. Any tips?

I am at the very beginning of the game and as the two characters are the only available objects at this point I assume I need something from them. I've tried every word combination I can think of but I can't interact with either of the characters after they've asked if there's anything I want to talk to them about and consequently I can't get the game started. I may be missing something obvious so any hints would be gratefully received.
